Studies are conducted by mail, wherein respondents are requested to mark their ratings directly on the advertisement or article that is being evaluated. A business reply envelope is enclosed for return of these marked up copies. Additionally, the test kit includes a marking crayon, instruction letter and a $5 check to serve as an incentive and/or attention device. Reports are based on about 100 replies.

Each publisher has exclusivity for Ad-Mark and Inter-Ad studies, since they are not conducted for competing properties.
